Leyner Palacios Asprilla – Speaker at the One Young World Summit in Bogotá

On October 7th, the One Young World Summit will focus on the Colombian peace process, a model for healing division, following the historic signing of a ceasefire between the government and FARC rebels last year. The accord effectively ends a 52-year conflict. But while lasting peace has become a possibility, the transition to political stability requires more than a signed document. Recent winner of the Global Pluralism Award, Leyner Palacios Asprilla will participate in a session on truth and reconciliation.  He will address the challenges facing the implementation of the peace accords, particularly in ensuring the rights of victims are protected, and the need for collective restorative measures promised by the FARC and the Colombian government to be accelerated.

He will be joined on stage by One Young World Ambassador Taban Shoresh, survivor of the genocide in Kurdistan under Saddam Hussein; Thuli Madonsela , a South African advocate and the former Public Protector of South Africa; and Justice Hassan Bubacar Jallow , the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Gambia.
