17th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

From July 8-12, 2024, REDIN representatives Jesús Herrera and Paula Cortés participated in the 17th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) in Geneva. REDIN, in partnership with the Global Centre for Pluralism, organized a side event titled “Pluralism and Indigenous Language Interpretation: Essential Elements for Upholding Rights and Justice for Indigenous Peoples”. The event highlighted how pluralism can be used as an effective framework for access to rights and justice for Indigenous Peoples in the context of Indigenous language interpretation. It also highlighted, through the presentation of REDIN’s work, the importance and great need of Indigenous language interpreters for the access to rights of Indigenous Peoples in Mexico and Latin America.

The panel was moderated by GCP Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Lais Maurilio, and counted with the participation of Francisco Calí Tzay, Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
